The federal government created NAICS codes in order to gather statistical information about business enterprises in the United States. The codes are very useful when conducting research. For instance, you can limit your search in Business Source Complete by using a relevant six digit code.
Visit the NAICS website to find codes and choose industry codes that pertain to the business you are planning. When searching Business Source Premier, find the NAICS code limiter and insert your code. Conduct your search in the advanced search box and see if the code helps narrow your search.
The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code List may be helpful as well. The SIC list was supplanted by the NAICS list but some industries still require it.
Take a look at these two databases for industry information:
Hoover’s Academic includes up-to-date company and industry coverage, well researched biographical information about company executives, documents, press releases, investment research, and stock information, plus more.
NetAdvantage provides full-text access to the complete S&P Industry Surveys, as well as millions of individual entries on global corporations, industry outlooks, stocks, and mutual fund investing. A good source for statistical data and researching a wide variety of business topics.
Try using an industry code when searching Business Search Complete.
