DynaMed
Our institutional site license provides free downloads for the following devices: Palm (OS 3.5 and higher), Pocket PC, Windows Mobile Smartphone, BlackBerry, Android Smartphones, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. One must be a LMU faculty member, student, or staff member or an LMU-DCOM alumnus to install this resource for free. One must have a serial number to download the program; email Lisa Travis at lisa.travis@lmunet.edu to obtain a serial number; each serial number lasts for a year. Click on “PDA support” to access the links for downloading the program. Skyscape now supports the installation of DynaMed on up to up to five mobile devices of the same operating system. For example, if you have registered DynaMed on your iPhone, you can install it to your iPad using the same serial number. When you install Skyscape/DynaMed on the iPad, all of the resources that were registered to your iPhone are automatically installed. This behavior will also apply to the Android and BlackBerry platforms. DynaMed is updated daily and includes clinically-organized summaries for more than 3,200 topics that are in an outline form that can be used efficiently in clinical settings. Within our subscription to Medical Letter, click on the link for “Mobile Apps.” Complete the registration form; your username for the Medical Lettter app is the full email address you provide in the registration form; your password is whatever you want it to be. The mobile app is no longer offered, but the resources remain available on mobile devices. Free registration is required; click “Register” in the upper right-hand corner. May use on Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm OS 5, and Windows Mobile phones. You will need a AMA number, AOA number, state license number, or other license number to register. You can choose medical student as your professinal designation and provide a license number of 12345 in the “AMA Medical Education Number” if you do not currently have a license number, but you will need to update this number once you do receive one. Merck uses this information to verify you are a healthcare professional or student. Free apps for all specialties, cardiology, and diabetes are available for iPhone and Android devices. Here’s a description of the app for all specialties: A new case is added every Friday. Each case includes information from a history and physical, asks you what tests you want to run, asks you to choose one or more management option(s), and then provides you with the diagnosis and a discussion. Our institutional license to VisualDx now includes a free download for iPhones and Android devices. One must be a LMU faculty member, student, or staff member to install this resource for free. To install it, access a library link for VisualDx via a PC instead of your mobile device. Log into the proxy; your username is firstname.lastname, and your password is your email address password. Then click on the link for “Get VisualDx Mobile Free.” Fill out the form and click submit. You will receive a password via email. Open your App Store on your mobile device. Conduct a search for VisualDx. Click “Free.” Click “Install.” Once it is fully installed, click on the icon for VisualDx on your mobile device. Confirm you are of age to use the program. Then log in using the email address you used for registration and the password provided to you from VisualDx. One must downoad iTunes and then register and create an account to be able to browse and search the iTunes store, which has numerous free helpful applications and podcasts. Search for applications by name to find them. Free applications include 3D Brain, CliniCalc Medical Calculator, ECG Pocket Reference, Eponyms (for students), imageVis3D Mobile with 3-D images of medical CT and MRI scans, iRadiology, iTriage, MedCalcs, Medscape, theheart.org by WebMD, uBurn Lite, and more. Heather Rattenbury, OMS class of 2012, recommends a search for Joshua Steinberg to find the regularly-updated apps that he has created; they include ABG Acid-Base eval, Eating Disorders, EFM Guide, GBS guide, Lead Screen Guide, Pap Guide, PE & DVT dx tool, PFT eval, Pneumonia Guide, PreopEval, and WarfarinGuide. Tyler McCurry, OMS fellow of the class of 2014, recommends an emergency medicine app, Resuscitation; the first five cases are free, and there is an option to purchase 40 additional cases. Our institutional license to VisualDx now includes a free download for iPhones and Android devices. One must be a LMU faculty member, student, or staff member to install this resource for free. To install it, access a library link for VisualDx via a PC instead of your mobile device. Log into the proxy; your username is firstname.lastname, and your password is your email address password. Then click on the link for “Get VisualDx Mobile Free.” Fill out the form and click submit. You will receive a password via email. Open your App Store on your mobile device. Conduct a search for VisualDx. Click “Free.” Click “Install.” Once it is fully installed, click on the icon for VisualDx on your mobile device. Confirm you are of age to use the program. Then log in using the email address you used for registration and the password provided to you from VisualDx.
