Click here for a node map of the research process.

Whether you have to write a paper, give a presentation, or just better understand an idea or concept for a class, the research process can be overwhelming and frustrating. There are several good overviews to help you break down the process into more manageable parts. All stress the following points:

  • Having a well-defined topic or research question
  • Searching for information in various databases
  • Evaluating what you find
  • Properly citing what you find

Research Process Overviews:

The research process is the same no matter where you go to school but note that since these tutorials were made by different university libraries they will often direct you to their local resources for some steps. To find books we have in the Carnegie-Vincent Library you’ll want to use our local catalog, Piper. To see our periodical databases, you’ll want to see our Databases page.
