Six programs proposed for the conference form the basis for the Institute. The Institute is truly about all things career from hiring and mentoring to changing library type, finding contentment where you are, and creating a great succession plan. The  program line-up includes:

•The Pitfalls of Hiring a New Librarian: Expectations, Reality, and Moving Beyond the First Day

•How Low Can You Go? New Frontiers in Applying the Tools and Strategies of Succession Planning

•We Are Family - I Got All My Mentors and Mentees With Me...: The Family Tree of Mentoring

•Discovering Career Contentment

•Job Satisfaction: What Can Each of Us Do to Put it Within Reach

•Career Transitions Panel: What to Expect From Colleagues Who Have Transition to a Different Type of Library or Employer

Each program topic has unique learning outcomes, but the full day's outcomes may be described as:

•Identifying and planning for issues throughout the employment life cycle, from hiring to succession planning.

•Examining the importance of mentoring and how knowledge is passed from one generation of mentors and mentees to the next.

•Reinvigorating job satisfaction with new techniques gleaned from identifying career challenges and assessing staff relations and user satisfaction.

•Designing tweaks to add career satisfaction from identifying qualities that contribute to job satisfaction.

•Identifying concerns about career transitions.

Whether you love your job or you hate it Show Your Career Who's Boss will help you decide when and if you should move on, how to welcome new employees to your library and/or the profession, and how to be happy right where you are.  Join us in Knoxville or catch the on-demand videos of the Institute that will be available on AALL2go because of the generous support of the AALL/Bloomberg BNA Continuing Education Grant Program.
