Discrimination, harassment, or any form of intolerance will not be tolerated. We strive to ensure that our libraries are spaces where all feel valued, heard, and respected.

If you ever feel unsafe or unwelcome, please don't hesitate to reach out to library staff for assistance. Together, we can create a welcoming environment where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive.

LGBTQ+ studies, also known as queer studies, is an interdisciplinary field that examines issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. It encompasses a wide range of academic disciplines, including sociology, psychology, history, literature, cultural studies, and political science, among others. LGBTQ+ studies explores the experiences, histories, cultures, and politics of LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, as well as the social, cultural, and political forces that shape them.

LGBTQ+ studies is important because:

  • It promotes visibility and representation of LGBTQ+ voices and experiences, challenging stereotypes and reducing stigma.
  • It contributes to social justice movements by addressing inequalities and advocating for equality and human rights.
  • It fosters a deeper understanding of LGBTQ+ histories, cultures, and contributions, enriching our appreciation of human diversity.
  • It generates new knowledge and insights through scholarly research, expanding our understanding of gender and sexuality.
  • It supports personal empowerment by providing validation, support, and resources for LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, fostering resilience and self-acceptance.

Anyone can use LGBTQ+ studies resources, regardless of their background or identity. LGBTQ+ studies materials are valuable for:
