Who is eligible to vote in the US?

  • U.S. citizens who will be 18 years of age or older on or before the next election. 
  • Residents of Tennessee. See Guidelines for Determining Residency
  • College students can vote absentee in their home state or register to vote in TN.
  • If you need to cast your vote outside of TN, see Absentee voting and voting by mail for more information.
  • If you have been convicted of a felony, your eligibility to register and vote depends upon the crime you were convicted of and the date of your conviction. See Restoration of Voting Rights for more information.
  • Homeless persons should follow instructions (under "related links") for establishing an address.
  • Non-resident property owners should consult their local elections commission or city attorney for questions regarding eligibility (under "related links").
