Citation Reminders

If you use a citation generator remember to check if it follows current guidelines!

Often times they may not match exactly what is needed.

For larger projects, learning how to use Zotero may help keep you on track.

Note on AI

Generative AI (ex. ChatGPT) might be useful for generating ideas in early stages, however there are many aspects to consider:

  • Transparency: Ask your professor for how to cite and/or ways you may need to disclose how you used AI. This may vary for department to department. Additionally, if you do not disclose and are published you may face repercussions due to plagiarism or dishonesty.
  • Accuracy: AI systems may "hallucinate" and fabricate information and citations. There are also biases that were created depending on the datasets trained on.
  • Source Attribution: Where is the information coming from? This is hard to pinpoint due to the amount of datasets the AI is trained on.
  • Privacy: If you input any private information, either of yourself or others, that information will be used to train the algorithm as well as sold to 3rd party vendors, law enforcement, or others.
