General Information

Access

The Law Library is open to all faculty, staff, and members of the Tennessee Bar, with our primary responsibility to serve the students and faculty of the Duncan School of Law. Handicap access is located at the north side of the building.

It is the purpose of the Duncan School of Law Library administration and staff to make the holdings of the Law Library as freely available to all patrons as is consistent with our mission.

Circulation

A self-checkout system is located on the main floor of the Duncan School of Law in the lobby for faculty and students. You are required to check-out all print materials that are removed from the library shelves. Pursuant to the DSOL Code of Academic Integrity, it is a violation to:

"Hide, mutilate, or destroy any library materials or remove any materials from the library except as authorized, or allow any other person to do so."

A current Duncan School of Law identification card WITH LIBRARY BAR CODE is required to check materials out from the Library.

ID cards and bar codes are non-transferable. Please do not attempt to check-out any library material(s) with another student’s ID and bar code.

Circulating books can be checked out for a three week period and can be renewed, provided that they have not been requested by another user.

Audiovisual materials have a limited circulation period of one week.

Any materials that are checked-out must be returned after the exam period for that semester.

Copiers/Printers

A copier/printer is located on the main floor of the Library near the restrooms. A second machine is on the third floor. Students are allocated 500 pages and students can add additional printing to their accounts through the Lincoln Memorial University Information Services Department.

Please do not attempt to clear problems with the copiers. Report any malfunctions, including paper jams and low toner, to the Library staff.

In addition, a dedicated Lexis Advance printer is located on the main floor of the Law Library. All Lexis Advance documents should be printed to this printer and not the student copiers/printers.

Food, Drink, and Smoking Policy

There are designated areas where faculty, students and staff can prepare and eat their food within the law school building. All Library users are requested to keep study areas and offices clean. Students are urged to take their food and drink to the Student Lounge where tables and couches have been provided.

The Law School is a smoke-free environment.

Re-shelving Books

There is a book cart located on the main floor of the library for items that need to be re-shelved. To ensure that the Law Library remains in order, please do not re-shelve books.

Restrooms

Restrooms are located on all floors of the building. There are restrooms located on the main floor of the Library, and near the Tennessee collection on the third floor.

Study Areas

Tables are located on both the main and third floors of the law school and are available to students on a first-come, first-served basis. Books, papers, and any other personal belongings must be removed from the reading rooms at the end of each study session.

The library staff is not responsible for any personal belongings left in the study areas. Study rooms are also available for use by the students. These are generally available on a first-come, first-served basis. Study rooms cannot be reserved, and groups of three or more students have priority over a single student. During exams, some study rooms may be reserved for exams only.

With respect to others, please talk quietly in all library areas.

Cell phones should be turned off or on vibrating mode at all times. Please show courtesy to others by not making or answering phone calls in the study areas.

Westlaw and Lexis Patron Access

Graduates of the Duncan School of Law have access to our Westlaw and Lexis Patron Access services that provide limited access to both services. Access to these services is available by clicking on the desktop shortcuts on the computer located on the third floor of the library.
